The two stars of the film, Sy Thomas and Alexis Dubus were both in Scotland performing new shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and were sadly unable to attend.
Seeing the film screen to a cinema audience for the first time was a nerve-wracking experience. As the cinema filled and the lights dimmed, there was a strange mix of anxiousness and excitement. This was the first time that a paying audience would watch the film.
Every doubt you’ve ever had about shortening an edit or lowering the music in the sound mix seems to be exacerbated on the big screen! You become painfully aware of how the audience is reacting to your film – are they laughing at the right moments, are they paying attention to the important parts and crucially, are they immersed in the story?
However, the screening went down brilliantly, receiving an ecstatic round of applause as the credits rolled. After winning two awards at the Los Angeles Movie Awards, it seems at though the Americans are going mad for End of the Road. Further screenings are planned Stateside for later in the year.
The morning after ‘End of the Road’ screened in competition at the festival, last year’s recipient of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film Director Juan Jose Campanella (for the ‘The Secret in their Eyes’) screened his film ‘Luna De Avellaneda’ in the same cinema. It was an honour to have screened 'End of the Road' in competition alongside such prestigious filmmakers.

The organisers of the festival installed a giant screen right in the heart of Times Square where ‘End of the Road’ played to the general public. Director Richard Nicholls couldn’t be in attendance for the screening, but would love to have seen the reaction of passers by as Sy’s potty mouth becomes more prominent in the latter half of the film…..
